***Legendary British Symphonic Progressive Rock Act to preview new 'Journey's End ­ The Art Of Melody' album with three very special Concerts in April***

The Enid, the world's foremost symphonic rock band who sold out their first tour for 21 years in October and November 2009, preview their upcoming new studio album, 'Journey's End ­ The Art Of Melody', at three very special live concerts in April. Dates are:-

The band will play two sets at the Birmingham Town Hall:-
1st half ­ 'Journey's End ­ The Art Of Melody' entire album.
2nd half ­ One off performance of music from the album 'Aerie Faerie Nonsense' with special guest Francis Lickerish, plus the full brass and percussion of The Chandos Symphony Orchestra and the Town Hall organ in full flight. The entire concert will be recorded in surround sound and filmed on state of the art HD cameras for future DVD release.

Valiant Hearts ­ Tribute To All Who Have Fought For Their Country
On Friday 23rd April, St Georges' Day, The Enid will play "A patriotic set with a special performance of the British Legion Hymn 'O Valiant Hearts" says founder Robert John Godfrey, continuing; "In 1943, I.5 million volunteers mainly from India but from all over the British Empire came together in the 14th Army ­ the greatest single army the world has ever seen. Together they saved the motherland's bacon. My father was Lieutenant John Godfrey. When he was just 21 years old, he fought for his country and won a military cross in a far away land, Burma. He nearly died of his wounds in an ambush behind the Japanese lines near the river Chindwin on eve of the Battle of Kohima ­ sometimes called the British Thermopylae. His life was saved by his beloved Gurkha batman who nursed him all the way back to Britain on a hospital ship. It is the decedents of these brave men of the 14th Army who have since made the United Kingdom their home."

London Islington Union Chapel The Enid, who sold out their London Bush Hall gig last May return to London to preview 'Journey's End ­ The Art Of Melody', which will be released in Summer 2010, in its entirety in this intimate setting.

The Enid, formed by keyboard player Robert John Godfrey in 1974, emerged as a radical alternative for all young people who couldn’t identify with punk, but were looking for a fresh, provocative, different and challenging form of music.

The Enid’s totally fresh take on Progressive Rock, (which by this time had become a dirty word), eschewed the simplicity and cynicism of punk in favour of a broad, almost orchestral, dynamic range, and a rich canvas of emotions and ideas. The power of the band’s live performances (and recordings!) of their large scale, myth and fantasy inspired, wholly instrumental pieces, rapidly gained them a huge, fanatically dedicated following.

By 1983, Tommy Vance had dubbed them ‘The Biggest Cult Band In Europe’ and record companies feared them so much that they were forced to become the first band ever to self fund their recordings with fans’ contributions in advance - as is increasingly becoming the norm in the 21st Century. Glastonbury banned them and they were even investigated by MI5 in the mid-eighties for their anarchical views. Then in 1988, after nearly ten years of continuous touring, Robert John Godfrey called an official halt with two back-to-back sold out shows at London’s Dominion Theatre, and the band dissolved. Except for a few one-off adventures in the nineties, The Enid lay dormant whilst Godfrey fought his demons and ran recording studios for a living.

He completely rediscovered his musical muse five years ago, (inspired by watching films of fellow virtuosos pianists), and has now lovingly reformed The Enid with original drummer Dave Storey plus new young recruits Jason Ducker on guitars, Max Read on vocals and keyboards and Nicholas Willes on bass and percussion. The Enid set out on their first UK Tour for 21 years in September 2009.
